On today's Alley Oop - 31 July 2020

And the strip continues the downward slide into complete idiocy. No Hamlin in sight, just Tele-Tubbies silliness. So Ooola is now the Law West of Lem? She must have really roughed that dimwit up since his head in the last panel now has been knocked over to sit on his left shoulder. Seems painful...😒 Also, note the sneaky reference to Hillary's new book. Product placement has come to Moo?

On Today's Alley Oop - 30 July 2020

Several months back, somewhere in Oakland, a giddy ex-male cartoonist sat back in an overstuffed chair. She had just convinced her syndicate to remove the comment board on the "Alley Oop" comic strip. This had been a thorn in her side since the first day her work had appeared. The idea of  "freedom of speech" was one she cherished, at least for people who criticized the police and government, she felt strongly felt that people who criticized her work should never be heard from. Removed from the hindrance of a bunch of whiney, old men who probably weren't smart enough to understand how great she was and how zany she had remade the strip, she began to plot her first story set in ancient Moo.  "Let's see. Jonathan says that Oop's best friend was a big nosed, bald-headed, goof who talked in rhyme. That sounds too difficult and besides, Garg has been his friend since he was a little kid! And everybody loves Garg! And I can expand on my brilliantly zany i...

On today's Alley Oop - 29 July 2020

Another day wasted with another silly gag. Slowly deteriorating into a bad slapstick movie. Not much else to say, sadly.🤢

On today's Alley Oop - 28 July 2020

Well, there ya have it. The strip deteriorating before our eyes into just one dumb gag after another. 👎 Bring back Alley Oop!!!

On today's Alley Oop - 27 July 2020

Well, that just about settles it. Oaf is now officially portrayed as a mentally challenged adult. And Doc is also showing signs of senility and probably should soon be in a care facility. The two mental midgets stand around and if not watched, will just wander off somewhere.  Meanwhile Ooola is left to fend off the Dino on her own, which in this stupid iteration, is probably the best, as Oaf would just be in the way, trying to befriend the Dino. So sad. 🤢

On today's Little Oop - 26 July 2020

Another low octane Sunday strip. It would seem that Little Oop, being a cavekid, would be reasonably strong, likely more so than a modern bully. So, since it would be 2 against 1, it would seem like the bully would be the one running. More silly nonsense. 😒

Archives Update July 26, 2020

No strips added to the archive. See last week's post for an archive breakdown by year.

On today's Alley Oop - 25 July 2020

More inanity today, as usual. So now this character has a pet tyrannosaurus? As an attack dog? This psycho "director"  and the opal nonsense appear to be an attempt at some sort of a story. It's not likely to pan out however. 😒 Let's see how Oaf handles this.

On today's Alley Oop - 24 July 2020

This nonsense just gets dumber and dumber by the day. Giant opal in Lem? Signs all over Lem advertising it? So instead of an adventure tale we were hoping for, we get some kind of nonsensical BS heist story? What value would a giant opal have to cavemen (OK, Bedrock men). Perhaps Barney and Fred can sell it to buy themselves a lifetime supply of Winstons? Because we all know that "Winston Tastes Good, Like A Cigarette Should". 🙄 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bvt8skgm2l8

A Bedrockish Bar on today's Alley Oop - 23 July 2020

Image
Ooola and a play director walk into a Bedrock Bar. The bartender asks what'd ya want? Ooola says some whiskey, on the rocks ! Haw Haw Haw! Okay, that wasn't today's lame joke in Alley Oaf, but it was better, wasn't it? Wootie and Unca, your fears have indeed come true. Yesterday you pointed out that there wasn't a bar in Moo ever, as per the true Alley Oop canon... But in this Bedrocky Moo, there is! And guess what, there's more retcons galore. Ooola also used to work here. Wow. So far, we all thought that the Bedrocky Moo, plagiarised right off The Flintstones , was only a part of the Sundays Little Oaf installments. But now we know that it's going to be a new crappy canon in the dailies too, in this stupid sitcomic. I was afraid of this. And what do they serve in this bar? Ancient ale? Bone age beer? Stone age scotch on-the-rocks? Cretaceous cocktails? Or is it just herbal hot drinks? And why does Ooola think that guy's a creep? Just becaus...

The happily unmarried insecure Ooola, On today's Alley Oop - 22 July 2020

Image
And on today's Alley Oaf, we encounter a happily unmarried insecure Ooola. Whatever happened to that good ol' feisty Ooola from the good ol' days of Hamlin? Ooola tells the play director who invites her for a drink that she's going to bring the sword just in case. And the question that comes in my mind once again is that why isn't it mandatory for new writers who take over old established strips to keep a well established character's integrity? I thought only men in this comic were reduced to imbeciles and morons. Now we know that in this new Alley Oaf sitcomic, Ooola the socialist Mary Sue is also a "happily unmarried" insecure little girl. The writer ruins a no-nonsense feisty woman character who was the original Ooola. Looks like she hates strong women characters too. And all this apparently for a lamentably lousy joke -- "I'm going to bring the sword, just in case" -- and this is supposed to be funny? Ha ha? Fair enough? And...

On today's Alley Oop - 21 July 2020

So now we have some off the wall play director in Moo?  Who's idea was this? Gentrification has come to Moo. Upscale caves next? And we plod on. 🙄

On Today's Alley Oop 20 July 2020

On Saturday, Joey left us with what looked like a cliffhanger as Ooola appeared to be attacking something, although with a rather skimpy spear, it couldn't have been very big. Still, it showed a slight promise of action in a strip where action has been sadly AWOL for the last year-and-a-half. I think most of us knew deep down that this was likely to be fake or something that wouldn't last long. And, sure enough, this is the first panel in today's strip: It appears that somehow, some way, she is a prehistoric movie, proving that "Lisa's Story" over at "Funky" isn't the worst making of a movie ever portrayed in a comic strip. One cannot help be awestruck by how stupid this sequence is. First, the two panels don't even flow together as she goes from leaping at something to standing even with her combatant. Not to mention that the pointed end of the spear has disappeared between the two panels. And why is there fake scenery that looks a l...
